H.A Newson Ltd was formed in 1956 by
Hughie Newson. Hughie operated his sewing machine business from various
locations in the Dominion Road, Mt Eden area until shifting to the current
premises at 61 Rimu Street, New Lynn in 1990. |

In 1967 he was joined by his son Steve and, now that
Hughie has retired, the business is in capable hands of Steve. Steve is
in charge of the sewing machine servicing, ably assisted by Robert McDonald
when required. |

Shortly after shifting to their present location
they were joined by Carol Newson, funnily enough no relation, as tutor/demonstrator.
Carol has been in the sewing machine business herself for twenty years
and is now in control of a large showroom of sewing machines, sewing cabinets
and accessories.
Now with the expansion of our premises Carol will be running classes for sewing, quilting, etc. alongside the retail aspect of the business. |

Liz Lynch has joined the staff of H.A. Newson Ltd
as a part-time employee to take care of the financial side of the business
and to assist Carol with the sales of machines, overlockers and accessories. |
